Possibilities of powder coating

When entrepreneurs think about what to paint with powder coating materials, the first thing that comes to mind is iron. Mostly, this is the end of the list, although in fact it is far from complete. Powder coating requires polymerization at high temperatures, and not every material can withstand them. However, the range of LFM capabilities has expanded. For example, low-temperature coatings that harden at 140℃ have been added.

So what can we powder paint besides iron?

Ceramics

Painting ceramic products is a complex process, and enamels for ceramics are quite toxic, dangerous and expensive. Powder coatings are cheap, safe and reliable alternative that will look great for years to come. A clay vase can easily withstand 200℃, so it can be painted like metal — it does not need any special conditions. But it is better to monitor stable heating in the curing chamber, because the product may crack or the polymer film will turn out to be unreliable. But the same goes for metal.

Another significant advantage of powder paints is their bright color. It is difficult to achieve attractive bright colors on ceramics, especially neon greens or pinks. With powder paint, it’s easy to make a bright red vase that will never fade.

MDF

Not every composite wood can withstand polymerization. Only MDF products can be placed in the polymerization furnace without any risk. They will need low-temperature varieties of coatings with polymerization at 130 – 150℃. At the same time, it is important to preheat the oven for uniform processing. The parts are suspended in the places of future connections, so they do not receive unnecessary damage.

Before starting to assemble the furniture, you should wait until all the components cool down, otherwise the painted layer will be damaged.
