How to remove powder coating
Powder paint is very strong and durable. It is very good for products covered with it. But when it comes to remove paint from metal, there can be difficulties. There are several ways to remove a coating from a metal product: sandblasting and chemical.
Sandblasting
Sandblasting method involves removing the coating by ejecting a sand stream into the workpiece. Often, together with the sand, small glass fragments are introduced there. It takes two hours to remove paint from the car.
This method is environmentally friendly and safe. It is fast. Sandblasting can even further clean the product from rust.
However, it is quite time consuming. And it is necessary to have special skills, otherwise the thin and fragile parts may be damaged.
Chemical
You can use a special detergent for removing powder paint. Properly used, it is easy and quick to clean metal products from powder paint. If there is a special bathtub in which the solution is poured, then the cleaning will be faster and better than the previous method. However, in order to clean the workpiece by this method, it is necessary to use protective equipment and further wash the product after removing the coating.
Chemical solvents differ in consistency and structure.
Liquid flushing of powder paint requires a steel bath. There you should pour this solution. And the product is pre-cleaned slightly and immersed in the solution. The time required to dissolve the paint is indicated on the package. If the process is to be expedited, the workpiece must be moved horizontally and vertically.
After the expiration of the time indicated on the package, the product should be removed and wait until all residual solution has drained. After that, it is washed with water and that’s all, the product remains without paint.
Thick wash for powder paint made of metal is applied directly to the workpiece with a brush or roller. The layer should be uniform and fairly thick. After a while, the coating will crack and flatten. Then you need to remove the paint with a spatula. Such agents are very well kept on the surface. Therefore, you shouldn’t have fear that they are leaking.
Safety measures
If you are removing powder paint with chemical solutions, then you must take care of your own safety. The fact is that all of these agents include chemicals. Quite aggressive.
To be safe, be sure to read the instruction manual carefully. Wear protective clothing and goggles. Skin and eye contact should not be allowed. The room where everything is going should be well ventilated.
Removing powder paint from discs and other metal products does not take much time, but requires great care. It is better, of course, to wash off the coating with chemicals. Because it is cheaper, there is less risk of surface damage.
