Methods of transportation and storage of powder paints
Powder paints are sent to the buyer fully ready for use. There is no need to take any preparatory action with them.
It is very convenient. However, in order for the paint not to lose its properties and not deteriorate in advance, it is necessary to know the conditions of storage of powder paint and the rules of its transportation.
Transportation of paint
The powder is transported in special containers. Most powders do not require special conditions of transhipment.
The paint may be damaged during transportation.
Sometimes shaking can make the powder much denser. But this is not a defect. Sifting and shaking do not affect the main qualities of the paint.
But if the powder is strongly heated during transportation, chemical curing can occur. This is bad, because in this case the powder is unsuitable for painting. As a result of the chemical action, the paint loses its fluidity, during baking, the particles harden and the powder does not completely sinter.
Therefore, the transportation of powder paint should be carried out by specialists who will not allow the material to get in the way.
In order for you to avoid the appearance of spoiled paint in your warehouse, after receiving it, it is worth checking the quality of the material. Especially if it is sensitive to transport or storage conditions. It is simple: apply paint to the plate and bake in a polymerization furnace. If the coating is normal, the paint is of good quality.
The packaging must not be damaged, otherwise, it will not protect the powder.
When you are convinced of the quality of the powder, you can safely pick up the inventory.
Powder paint storage
Generally, the powder is stored in containers, boxes, sometimes in bags.
Most often the paint is packed in a box for 23-25 kg. Inside it are bags of powder. They are necessary to avoid absorption in the material of possible moisture.
It is imperative to keep a record of the powder with the exact date of receipt, product number, batch and quantity, as well as details received from the supplier.
Stocks should be free of stoves, boilers, central heating, heaters and other heat sources.
No need to have a lot of paint at the storage. It is better to buy new materials. The storage temperature of powder paint – from 5C to 27C. The humidity in the room should be 50-60%. Storage conditions should be constantly checked.
If the paint is to be applied under conditions other than its storage, it needs to stand slightly at the place of application. This will keep it warm and avoid moisture condensation.
Do not leave the powder overnight in the hopper – moisture can get into it. And this will affect the process of its spraying.
If you do not use all the powder from the container at one time, it should be sealed. So the powders will not get clogged, they will not get dust and other paints.
The container is not reused.
Be sure to take an inventory and check that the powder has not deteriorated. The shelf life of powder paint with proper adherence is about 1 year.
