Powder coating for metal for external use

Unfortunately, not any powder coating will look good for a long time under the scorching sun. Ultraviolet in combination with moisture destroys molecular bonds in polymers and pigments. Each resin or dye will have a different rate of such degradation.

Let’s see which has the greatest endurance.

Polyester powder coating

The best choice for fences, transformers, facade panels. Things that suffer from sudden changes in temperature, so it will last the longest. It is possible apply a thin (30 – 70 microns) or thick layer (75 – 120 microns). However, it will protect less against corrosion. To prevent the structure from rusting, it is necessary to apply some epoxy primer.

Polyurethane materials

Not as stable as the previous one, but quite durable. It is applied by a film only in 25 micron. It has a good spreading index, similar to silicate enamels. Except resistance to weathering, it withstands aggressive acidic and alkaline environments. Perfectly combines rust protection with weather resistance.

Polyacrylate powder coating

The properties are similar to polyurethane, but lies on the surface slightly thicker ― 40 – 50 micron. Both coatings are widely used for stairs, doors, windows, garden furniture.

Resistance to external factors

This indicator is defined by the amount of time during which the painted surface will retain the original
properties in the place of the most intense sunlight. Such “reference points” are Okinawa in Japan and South Florida in the United States. The least hardy keep their original state there 12 – 18 months, and the most stable ― 5 years. In these strong powders add only inorganic pigments. Organic degrades extremely quickly.

Black and silver colors withstand the sun best. You can pick up these on our website.

So choose high-quality powder coating and stable service!
