Powder coating of bicycle

Bicycle manufacturers have long begun to cover their details with powder paint only. This coating is distinguished by its durability and reliability. In addition, due to the variety of colors and textures available, you can make bicycles of different designs.

Covering a bicycle with powder paint is the best way to refresh its appearance, and to make it stand out from the others.

In which cases powder coating is required

It may be necessary to paint a bicycle with powder paint in several cases:

  1. The bike is very old with lots of scratches. You need to cover it all with a new color.
  2. The existing color is already very tired. You want to upgrade it or make your own unique bike design.
  3. For a long time the bike laid on the roof. Due to this, metal parts were damaged and rust appeared.
  4. Purchase a used bicycle with defective coverage to be removed.

Among those who want to stand out, there are often questions about how to paint a bike in chrome. This can be done with powder paint. Chrome can be traditional silver. And it can be unusual black or gold. For this a special pigment is added to the powder. This does not affect the general properties of powder paint. It is still durable and resistant to negative influences.

Why did “old-fashioned” painting go away?

Liquid paints, unlike powder paints, cannot ensure the durability of the coating when actively using the bicycle. Over time, after painting the frame of the bike and its other parts, many mechanical damages, such as scratches or scuffs, appear on them. And liquid paint is sure to hit the rust, and it will certainly adversely affect its decorative properties.

All this can be avoided by applying a powder coating. The particles of the powder ideally lie flat on the surface, which is painted, because the whole process takes place with the help of an electric field. Baking paint at high temperatures. Initially, the powder particles are melted, thus completely covering the entire surface. This provides maximum protection for the product. The paint itself is resistant to any negative effects: mechanical, chemical or atmospheric. Even with intensive use of the painted product, it still looks like new.

What can I cover with powder paint?

Powder paint is the ideal material for coating any metal product. Powder can be used to paint the bicycle forks, carry-outs, handlebars, seat pins, connecting rods, bushing housing and lunch.

In general, powder paint is suitable for painting absolutely any metal part. In this way you can cover products of any shape and size. You just need to have the right equipment.

Bicycle powder painting technology

Each part of the bike is painted separately. Therefore, the bicycle must first be disassembled into parts and all rubber and plastic elements must be removed.

All parts must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, old paint removed, rust and scale removed. This can be sandblasted or shot blasted. Then they must be degreased with special means and phosphated. They are also primed and then coated.

The powder coating is applied in a special spraying chamber. With a spray gun particles of powder are fed to the product, where due to the electric field is deposited. All that is not settled, goes to the recuperator and again goes to work.

The painted part is sent to the polymerization furnace. The final coating is formed there. You can use the parts immediately after painting.

At home, the painting will not work. Because the necessary equipment is expensive. And it is not advisable to buy it for a single coating.
