Powder coating: usage and risk factors

Powder coating materials are used in various industries, so objects covered with it are used in harsh and favorable conditions. It is worth understanding which coating will be most effective in a particular environment. “Lakover” strives for your products to serve for many years.

So, why do you need to consider external environmental factors?

Marine environment

The coastal zone of the seas is known for the increased risk of rust. The destructive effect of salt is easily seen on the metal faucets and doors of resort towns, where every object rusts at an incredible rate, unless it is covered with paint. Preliminary preparation of structures becomes critically important, because the adhesion of the coating must be perfect. For such areas, special marine-grade LFMs have been developed that can withstand increased salinity, intense sunlight, and chemical pollution. These can be found under the ISO 12944 mark of the International Organization for Standardization.

Industrial premises

Factory shops have many challenges – it is important to know exactly the purpose of each product. Even a drying net will last very little, if at all incorrectly painted. Aggressive chemicals and constant friction can seriously damage any structure. Epoxy paints are best suited in such a situation. When severe temperature drops and hypothermia occur, polyester material will be a good choice.

Intense lighting

Ultraviolet rays are able to destroy molecular bonds in polymers and dyes — as a result, non-durable LFM quickly lose color and peel off from the surface. Polyester paints are preferred for outdoor use, which are resistant to various weather conditions, including rain and weathering.
