Problems during applying of powder coating
Painters and entrepreneurs often face difficulties in the process of applying powder coating materials, while not fully understanding the causes of the defect and how to get rid of it. Lacover specialists have extensive experience in solving such problems, so we have collected the most common problems that may arise in the process of powder painting and will tell you a little about the ways to solve them.
Poor fluidization
Insufficient friability of the powder can lead to a decrease in the quality of application and its uneven distribution on the surface of the metal product. The factors are quite diverse: improper storage of powder coating, dirty spraying system, quality of compressed air, high humidity of the product, low pressure in the spraying unit and many others. Or the powder paint simply ends up in a box. In this case, the replacement of filters of the spraying unit, checking the quality of compressed air, and additional manual mixing of the product will be helpful.
Clogged hose
A layer of paint accumulates in the hoses — it is better to constantly monitor the level of such sediment. Shorten the length of the hoses as much as possible and check if there is any holes. Low pressure contributes to the accumulation of loose mass, it should be adjusted to the optimum.
The paint “sticks” poorly to the metal surface
Insufficient grounding, many layers of paint on the suspension and even the distance between the nozzle and the product negatively affect how the powder will be applied to the surface. It is necessary to clean suspensions and grounding points from accumulated LFM. Sometimes such a problem indicates that the spray gun needs to be replaced.
Polymer film with “orange peel”
The appearance of “orange peel” appears when the layer is too thick. Most likely, the paint material was sprayed on for too long. If specific shape of the products makes it difficult to work, instead of spraying for a longer time, try painting at different angles, distances and with different nozzle configurations.
An audit every few months will eliminate the problems described above. “Lacover” conducts professional inspections with all the necessary equipment — you will receive complete information about the state of affairs in your production. Choose reliable business partners!
