Second coat of powder paint: can it be applied?
Sometimes after powder painting, the coating comes out with defects. This can be caused by various reasons. We talked about them in detail earlier. Problems can be eliminated during the preparation and coating phase. However, it may be necessary to remove the defects in the coating after baking the powder.
Of course, it’s best to remove everything and repaint with the technology. But it’s not always possible. Another way to eliminate the lack of painting is to re-coat the already painted surface. Today we talk about what to paint over powder paint, and how to do it.
Re-coating
Powder coating can be updated with the same paint. As a rule, the powder can be applied to the powder without losing its physical properties. And this will even help increase corrosion resistance. In this case, the coating will look quite normal.
Let’s just say: you can only re-apply paint to a newly painted product. And the old is impossible. In this case, you can only remove it and re-apply the powder.
Re-coating is essentially a repeating of the process of applying the first coat of paint. But sometimes it may be necessary to adjust the staining parameters to cover the defects obtained for the first time. The thickness must also be such as to conceal problems.
It is not possible to repaint only part of the part. Then the coating will be of different thicknesses.
It is possible to apply a second coat of powder paint on a large number of painted products. But first, we need to check the adhesion between the layers. If the first layer has been too dried, it should be sanded a little before applying the next one. This will provide better adhesion.

Keep in mind that when you re-apply the paint, the probability of reverse ionization is greater than when you first paint. If you encounter this, lower the sprayer voltage.
Of course, the grounding plays an important role in the re-application of the paint, as with the first painting. Therefore, you need to make sure that everything is well-grounded.
And yet, when asked what kind of paint it is possible to paint powder paint, let’s say that some paint the coating with the liquid one.
Tinting with liquid paint
If you spray liquid paint over a powder sprayer, the paint application lines will be very visible. Some paint with a brush, for example, to apply a mark.
Adhesion problems may occur with the use of liquid inks.
It is important to take precautionary measures during painting and to give the parts more drying time.
We do not recommend powder coating with liquid paint. This can lead to defects in the coating. And, of course, the best way to fix a problematic surface is to remove the powder layer and repaint it.
