The consumption of powder paint

The consumption of powder paint is the most common question for all our customers. And today we decided to discuss this issue in the article.

The consumption of powder paint must be calculated on the basis of requirements for future coverage and factors such as:

  • film thickness;
  • particle size distribution;
  • specific gravity;
  • product form;
  • human factor.

Film thickness. Powder coating can be of different textures: smooth and structural, as well as for different purposes: decorative, protective, decorative and protective.

Each coverage has their own rates:

  • decorative coating 40-50 μm;
  • sheeting 70-100 μm;
  • decorative protective coating 90-130 μm.

Granulometric composition (or also called “fractional composition”). The appearance of the coating (structure), as well as the flow rate, depends on the particles of the paint itself (how small or large they are). The larger the coating film, the greater the paint consumption.

Specific weight. The lighter the paint, the lower its consumption. For example: the specific weight of the paint is 1.2 g / cm³, the coating thickness is 80 μm = consumption of 100 g / m².

Product form. A completely different flow rate will have a painted product of a direct and complex shape. Complex forms require more paint consumption.

Human factor. It is important to pay attention to the qualification of the painter. An experienced painter knows how to paint, the rules of grounding a metal product, the quality of the gun, etc. Knowledge of proper painting can reduce consumption by 10-15%.

We should admit that the human factor can not affect nor the quality of the coating neither the flow rate in automatic powder coating lines. The lines are programmed for the best result.
