Michael Faraday was the first scientist to investigate this property—an external electromagnetic field neutralizes the charge inside a closed conductive structure. Therefore, there is simply nothing to attract powder paint in a corner or recess. The electrical resistance in the center of the corner decreases, and the edge increases — and the powder settles in a thicker layer at the edges of the unpainted area, which causes an unpleasant defect.

Elimination of the deficiency

Before each change, it is better to check the settings of the sprayer and grounding. If the grounding points are covered with a thick layer of paint, electricity will not flow there, because any polymer has low electrical conductivity and isolates the current to one degree or another. They should be cleaned from time to time, because the paint is attracted precisely to the grounded surface. It is necessary to check the charge of bulk mass and adjust it to the optimum – the indicators will differ depending on the material and size of the product. Checking the air pressure is also important: when it is too strong, the dust will fly around and will not stay on the plane. Sometimes it helps to paint a problem corner from a different angle, rather than the whole subject.

Some manufacturers apply paint using the triboelectric method, which does not generate such high currents. First, the material is sprayed as usual, and then unpainted areas are finished with a special gun.
