Quality control of powder coating
Unfortunately, there are no established standards for quality powder coatings in Ukraine, so each manufacturer tries to determine their quality in their own way. Of course, this carries risks for the client — it is better to familiarize yourself with the signs of high-quality paint and varnish material in appearance, it must sift nicely, not be lumpy or expired, and in addition there are many other indicators.
The Lacover has its own laboratory and sets high standards for its products, subjecting them to the toughest tests. We are interested in producing the highest quality product on the Ukrainian market, which helps us to expand community of our customers. And how can you be sure of a quality product?
Bending test
The adhesion index is necessary for a high-quality polymer film. Powder coating material is known for its durability and the fact that it does not peel or crack. A big role in these exceptional properties is played by adhesion and penetration into the surface of the product, filling all microscopic cracks, dents. It is very simple to check this — just apply and bake paint on a small metal plate, and then bend it. A high-quality coating will not form cracks and chips.
Impact resistance
Iron structures and products usually endure heavy and long-term exploiting, consumers are accustomed to consider the metal to be strong, reliable and durable, and use it in harsh conditions — therefore, damage often occurs. The hit test is important, because even if a dent remains and the painted layer is not damaged, the product will last for many years and will not rust. For such a check, it is only necessary to make a clear dent in the test plate with a vise and see if cracks have formed.
Anticorrosive properties
Powder coating is mainly intended to protect steel from rusting, the ability to resist corrosive factors is a key characteristic. Conventional liquid paint materials peel and crack on metal in a matter of months. Therefore, there are no alternatives to powders in this regard. Rust resistance is checked with the so-called salt fog, because salt greatly accelerates corrosion. This experiment requires a little more equipment than the previous two — you’ll need a large vessel (such as an aquarium) and a heating device. The vessel should fill with salt water and heat periodically throughout. Above it, hang a scratched test plate with paint at a low height for several days. Later, look at how much the coating has come off around the edges of the scratches and how rusted the steel underneath is.
“Lacover” has high-precision equipment and measures defects down to microns to get rid of them at all costs. You can buy a small batch first and see if suitable for you. We guarantee that you will not want to buy any other paint than Lacover.
