The first measurement is grounding, for this there is a special tester. It is quite easy to use – a green light will show that everything is in order with the grounding, red means problems and poor “sticking” of the powder to the product. Due to poor grounding, much more paint is wasted than needed.

The temperature regime of the polymerization furnace is measured by a small DATAPAQ device — four sensors are placed inside the curing chamber, and then turn on the most typical baking cycle. Since each sensor reads the temperature of the specific metal, and not the surrounding air, we get real heating the product at its various points.

The painted layer is measured with a thickness gauge. If the thickness insufficient, the metal underneath will rust faster, because the powder paint does not insulate enough.

Next, we find out the level of adhesion — you will need an adhesiometer using the lattice cut method: it is enough to scrape the test plate with it – not a single particle should come off.

Passing the audit

In addition to the necessary measurements, it is necessary to check the serviceability of all equipment, the air pressure in the spraying units, the integrity of the cables. It is also worth  to analyze the conditions of use of the products — determine whether it is possible to save on powder paint.

One of the extremely important aspects of inspection is the storage of paint and varnish materials. Due to high humidity, poor ventilation, high temperature, exposure to direct sunlight and other problems, powder paint can clump together and be applied unevenly, creating a defective coating. It is better to check the warehouse premises and packaging.

Most of the shortcomings in the application of powder paints lead to excessive consumption of paint and paint material and defects. Everything affects the quality: the method of hanging parts, the number of colors and the frequency of their change, the initial state of the iron.
